Dave Yakima Chief on the Circle

The Circle has healing power. In the Circle we are all equal. When in the Circle, no one is in front of you. No one is behind you. No one is above you. No one is below you. The Sacred Circle is designed to create unity. The Hoop of Life is also a circle. On this hoop there is a place for every species, every race, every tree, and every plant. It is this completeness of Life that must be respected in order to bring about health on this planet. To understand each other, as the ripples when a stone is tossed into the waters, the Circle starts small and grows…until it fills the whole lake.

Dave was my friend, kind of a cool older brother who was one of my favorite people to hang out with.I have never in my life met anyone as respectful and understanding as him.I am not native American but Dave and I shared the same strong belief in the power of Holy Spirit, of love and The Sacred Circle. Daves vision led him to assemble people of every race and background for a year of all night circles to pray on the New Moon.He and I went up into the Cascades to cut lodgepole pine for the teepee poles as his plans included a shelter in case of rain.Later after the teepee was built a Golden Eagle flew down and perched right on top of it.Many strange and wonderful things like that happened around Dave, but he had no self centered ego about it.Indeed Dave was the most humble and least prideful man I ever knew,You are missed my friend, but you live in our hearts and our actions forever,
